Pennington Place Community

Suited best for families, Pennington Place is located in suburban central Chandler. The neighborhood contains homes mostly in the traditional Arizona ranch style and Santa Barbara-inspired architecture. Houses range between $150,000 and $350,000 and are on average 2000 square feet. Most houses are also on large lots, making room for a spacious approach and back yard.

The Area

With quiet streets and Brooks Crossing Park located in the middle of the neighborhood, Pennington is a very-kid friendly neighborhood. Several schools are located nearby, as well as several shopping centers that house activities for kids; voice lessons, dance studios, swimming lessons, and more are all within minutes of Pennington.

Outside the immediate suburban area, Chandler Sunset Library, the city museum, downtown Chandler and Chandler Fashion Center are each under ten minutes away. Downtown Chandler is famous for its bustling art community, which offers art walks and shows frequently. The area also offers a wide selection of dining and shopping opportunities. Chandler Fashion Center is the second largest mall in Arizona and offers premiere retailers. The museum provides the city’s history and houses artifacts detailing Arizona’s Native American population. Taking full advantage of the state’s mild weather, Chandler residents can explore the city’s many hiking trails, parks, and golf courses. Residents will have the easiest time traveling around the city with a car, although the city does operate on a limited bus route.

The Schools

Children living in Pennington Place will attend Andersen Elementary, Andersen Middle School, and Chandler High School. These institutions are located within the Chandler Unified School District, which was granted with an ‘A’ grade from the State Department of Education for their excellence and continuation to challenge their students. Andersen Junior High School is an International Baccalaureate World School, meaning the school offers rigorous courses that will prepare students to excel in high school, regardless of whether or not they continue with the IB program. The middle school is also highly unique in that it offers single gender classes, which is incredibly rare for a public school in itself. Students typically then attend Chandler High School, which offers the next IB program, as well as Advanced Placement classes, and honors classes. CHS recently built a state-of-the-art career and technical building, where students can take classes in woodworking, robotics, agriculture, auto-shop, and graphic design. The school also offers a wide range of athletic opportunities and clubs.

If parents wish to send their children to a private school, there are three private elementary schools, one private high school, and several day cares located less than a mile away. The elementary schools are all religiously affiliated (one is Jewish and the other two are Christian), and the high school is also Christian. If both children and parents are both willing to travel more than a mile for school, Chandler offers over 125 other educational opportunities.

The Economy

Chandler has been less affected by the current recession than other areas of Arizona because of their unique relationship with tech companies such as Intel, Verizon, and Freescale Semiconductor, earning it the name of “the Silicon Desert.” The endurance of this industry has helped support others in Chandler, such as service, retail etc. Wells Fargo and Wal-Mart are also large employers in the city. Chandler’s economy possesses a small portion of agricultural income, despite being largely commercial and residential. The median income is $62,000 per year with the majority of the city’s population being between the ages of twenty and forty.

Chandler’s housing market is consistently improving, with the price-per-square-foot increasing by 27.4% from last year to $121. The median sales price of Chandler homes has also risen to $214,817, increasing by 18.1% (or about $30,000) since last year.
